The Politics of Food (Cartoon Edition)
As a sucker for cartoons with food themes (I'm the target audience for Jack Ziegler's How's the Squid?: A Book of Food Cartoons, the wonderfully-titled Nancy Eats Food by Ernie Bushmiller, and The Cartoonist's Cookbook), I clip strips almost on a daily basis.
I tend to eschew the lasagna-loving Garfield, but Blondie, what with Dagwood's sandwich obsession and his frequent diner lunches, and Blondie's late-in-life reinvention as a caterer, is a real favorite.
And today's strip hit the spot. Especially sandwiched [pun intended] as it is for me between two dinners heavy on the salami, cheese, and wine: one in SF for a coming review, and another at Oakland's delightful Pizzaiola.
Here's to more cheese and wine in '09! Is that too elitist? Who cares. --Meredith Brody
