SF Weekly's Seven-Day Dish

Date Night:
At SOMA wine bar and small-plates restaurant District (216 Townsend at Third St.), sommelier Caterina Mirabella has launched a nice little series, Brunch with Caterina, which combines a leisurely Saturday brunch with wine tasting and some hands-on education. This Saturday, Sept. 27, the second class in the series gets under way on the topic of Spanish wines. The $75 ticket price earns you two hours of grade-A wine education, a tasting of reserve-quality vino, brunch, and – here’s the kicker – all-you-can-drink mimosas. The festivities begin with a crash course on the Spanish sparkling wine Cava, followed by a compare-and-contrast session with varietals including Tempranillo, Mourvedre, Grenache, and Carignane. Naturally, the brunch menu includes some charcuterie and that most Spanish of all Spanish dishes, paella. The brunch runs from noon to 2 p.m. Click here to purchase tickets online.
