Get Your Food Freak On

Dubious as I am about specific “aphrodisiacal” foods – I tend to think that eating itself is something of an erotic act, that sharing a meal is inherently intimate, and that ALL delicious foods are sexy! – there are certain tried-and-true favorites: oysters, caviar, foie gras among them. (Gee, they’re all expensive. Some people think it’s better when you pay for it. And some like to pay more.)

All of these exotic erotica (as well as shooters and specialty cocktails) can be found at the Golden Gate Restaurant Association’s Food Affaire at Ruby Skye on September 22nd, a fundraiser for the Association’s Scholarship Foundation, with tickets ranging in price from $88 to $150. Participating chefs and restaurants that are creating aphrodisiac-inspired dishes include some of San Francisco’s best, such as Joey Altman of the new Miss Pearl’s Jam House, Mark Gordon of Terzo, Stefan Terje of Perbacco, and Joseph Manzare of Globe and Tres Agaves.

In addition, dancers and “mystical performers,” whatever that is, are promised, as well as opportunities to be decorated with henna body art. (With all that, we wish they had come up with a more alluring poster.)

We haven’t been to Ruby Skye since Baby Loves Disco, but we have fond memories of their bubble machines and vintage-portrait-lined balcony. And we’re sure that the Food Affaire’s buffet will trump Baby Loves Disco’s juice boxes, string cheese, and organic baby carrots.

Here’s the Food Affaire’s video come-on, to get you started. The rest is up to you. --Meredith Brody
