If you want to try the food that Rachael Ray will be singing the praises of on Rachael Ray’s Tasty Travels on the Food Network next season, get yourself over to Ajanta in Berkeley, where the perky host enjoyed an Indian meal last week, per the chatty Ajanta newsletter: “We were visited by Rachael Ray and her camera crew on July 24th and 28th for Rachael Ray's Tasty Travels show on the Food Network. The shooting consisted of me cooking our best vegetarian dish, Badal Jaam, as well as Ms. Ray dining on Ajanta food. The show will be aired in 6 to 8 months.”

Badal Jaam is slices of eggplant pan fried, brushed with home made tomato sauce, spiced with mango powder, black rock salt and served topped with thickened yogurt sauce ( from Lucknow in India), and is $13 as part of a multi-course dinner (dinners are served with Basmati rice, a side dish of spinach and potatoes -- with non-veg dinners -- or chickpeas -- with veg dinners -- and half of a naan bread, chutneys, and pickles) and $10 a la carte.

On her $40-A-Day show, several years back, she tried Oriental Pearl, Swan Oyster Depot, Citizen Cake, and Le Metro, qui n’existe plus.

The last time Rachael hit SF, for Tasty Travels, she ate around, including Chow, Bocadillos, and Steps of Rome. We wonder where else she ate in the East Bay -- and if she found everything yum-o.
