While leafing through the ad-heavy September issues of Vogue (798 pages, suitable for killing small rodents) and In Style (a mere 486), our eyes were caught by two ads, both posed in front of old-fashioned restaurant signboards.
In a double-truck ad for Longchamp purses in In Style, Kate Moss (whose well-publicized drug and romantic problems seem to have done nothing but improve her supermodel standing), is sitting with a rocker-boy pal at the Cafe de Flore, where we can see that a club sandwich goes for 28 euros, or approximately 40 dollars, oy. In Vogue, two bohemians wearing Converse sneakers designed by John Varvatos lounge around a restaurant whose offerings include SPOILED HAM, TRAMP SALAD, and LEGS AND EGGS. Yum? Umm. Hmmm. Food for thought. --Meredith Brody
