Happy Hour for Carnivores: Yakiniku at Juban

I wandered into Juban for the first time late one Wednesday night, famished after shooting a show at the Fillmore, and managed to rack up quite a bill between the tasty yakiniku ("grilled meat") and glasses of shochu.
The restaurant's now "in rotation" as my partner likes to say, and claims a place on the short list of eateries we frequent when we want something good fast. But cheapskates that we are, we only stop in between 5:30 and 6:30 on weeknights: the window in which Juban slashes its prices on select meat items, sake and beer in half.

Monday's happy hour is our favorite, when the $9.50 plates of rib eye (above) go for a cheerful $4.75. Thursday's an even cheaper bet, with the yaki-shabu orders (below) at $3.75. Three orders of either with rice, sweet corn or buttered enoki mushroom make the meal. See a full list of sides here.

Here's a full list of the specials. Note: They no longer serve Kirin, but they now have Sapporo on tap.
