Attack of the Heirloom Tomato Week! August 14 - 24

It's finally here: Heirloom Tomato Week starts today! From August 14 -- 24 a whopping 52 area restaurants will tailor special tasting menus and dishes to showcase the taste-bud defying wonder that is the local heirloom tomato. Among the participating restaurants: North Beach's excellent and pricey Coi (373 Broadway), fancy Mexican spot Tres Agaves (130 Townsend), refined French purveyors Jardiniere (300 Grove), and Asian Fuson specialists Betelnut (2030 Union), among many others. It's the first of four planned "weeks" in San Francisco being organized by San Francisco Chefs. Food. Wine. Next up is Dungeness Crab Week (January, 2009), then Strawberry Week (April, 2009) -- all of which culminate in San Francisco Chefs. Food. Wine. The Weekend Affair, to be held in Union Square around this time next year. For the full rundown and to make reservations, check out opentable.com.
