Ham On Rye, With A Side Of Video Surveillance: The Future Of Dining Is Here

big_brother_watching.jpg

Forget customer comment cards and post-meal surveys, a new Dutch research center at the University of Wageningen, called the "restaurant of the future," is spying on diners with dozens of "unobstrusive" cameras to monitor eating habits. From Reuters:

"From a control room, researchers can direct cameras built into the ceiling of the restaurant to zoom in on individual diners and their plates. They watch how people walk through the restaurant, what food catches their eye, whether they always sit at the same table and how much food they throw away."

The researchers will experiment with noise levels, smells, furniture, food packaging and lighting. Sounds about as appetizing as a kick in the crotch.
