The Diary of a Teenage Girl: A Day of Filming

Yesterday we mentioned The Diary of Teenage Girl, featuring Kristen Wiig and Alexander Skarsgard, was filming in the Richmond District today. Now, here's what's going on:

10:26 a.m.: One, lone man is working on a door frame for the back door to Hamburger Haven. This film crew is obviously not a bunch of early risers.

10:28 a.m.: Oh good, another guy showed up to help him.

10:53 a.m.: The front of the restaurant is still open for business. An older man sprinkles salt on his eggs.

11:32 a.m.: One police officer on a dirt bike is hanging around, and and some young woman is carrying a bunch of stuff inside, including one, sad looking plant in a gold lame container (very '70s).

11:48 a.m.: The restaurant closes, and group of young guys who seem to know that filming is happening are ushered from the front door. The cop is still standing there. We bet he's pretty bored.

12:04 p.m.: He's still there; still looking bored.

12:20 p.m.: Now the gold lame plant and another indoor ficus-type plant have been moved outside (we told you it was sad looking plant). Yes, the cop is still there looking bored. Now he's leaning on a meter.

12:30 p.m.: Classic cars start to arrive.

1:09 p.m.: A bunch of fans are milling around. The crew size has grown, and three classic cars are in front of Hamburger Haven.

1:37 p.m.: The crew continues to unpack trucks, and bring boxes, cords, lights, and more, into the diner.

1:48 p.m.: Oh look, now there are some vintage bikes:

2:13 p.m.: They've covered the front entrance way with some white plastic and set up some exterior lighting. Also, the security guards are nice.

2:47 p.m.: It appears most of the set up is done, and the crew is milling around drinking coffee.

3:00 p.m.: It now appears they're filming inside the diner; while we aren't able to get a close view, from a distance it looks like every other day at Hamburger Haven.

3:34 p.m.: It's freezing, and they won't let anyone near Hamburger Haven now. Somehow the cast slipped in without being noticed.

3:59 p.m.: A crew member announces "We're rolling, we're rolling!" while two other members of the crew seem not to notice. They continue not to notice as he flails his arms trying to get their attention to move out of the light shining into Hamburger Haven.

4:18 p.m.: We've seen a few extras/supporting cast members, and their '70s outfits are definitely more the hippy look (rather than the Brady Bunch).

4:57 p.m.: Filming continues inside the diner, and that bored cop is still here.

5:29 p.m.: The classic cars leave, which is weird because they didn't film them at all.

5:58 p.m.: They're still filming inside the diner; we wonder how much of today's footage will actually make it into the film. Two minute? Maybe more.

6:24 p.m.: Filming is over for the day; we're bummed we didn't see Skarsgard or Wiig. Maybe next time. But rumor has it Jamie Lee Curtis was at the Ritz-Carlton today...

is this really worth writing about? I left LA because they treat movie productions like gods (and I work in movie production). It should be just as important as any other industry. Would there be as much attention for the next Jon Moritsugu or Paul Clipson film shoot?
