HBO's New Comedy Series, Silicon Valley, Sets High Expectations for Mike Judge Fans
In the trailer for Silicon Valley, writer and director Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-Head, Office Space) manages to blend slapstick humor, sexual vulgarity and plain-old silly into HBO's new flavor: comedic genius. It is all but 30 seconds, however, Judge casts his reel of funny and he definitely has me hooked.
In Silicon Valley, the awkward tech goons of the start-up industry are tired of taking the backseat. The trailer highlights three characters: the book-smart-not-so-street-smart nerd (Thomas Middleditch), the token Middle-Eastern guy (Kumail Nanjiani), and the "cool" wise guy (T.J. Miller), who are on the humble (and in this case hilarious) road of entrepreneurship.
The series that debuts on HBO April 6, the same night as Game of Thrones season four premiere, is a peek into what HBO calls the "high-tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley." Judge is said to be taking his personal experience working as a Silicon Valley engineer in the late '80s and twisting it in his usual way. Viewers should expect the show to capture Judge's talent for satirically laced crudeness provided his cast delivers.
