Some 2011 treasure hunters with awesome hats.

What better way to ring in the Year of the Horse than galloping around the city, winning prizes, and meeting new people? The annual Chinese New Year Scavenger Hunt is coming up!

Each team is given four-and-a-half hours, and provided with some cryptic clues, to uncover San Francisco's hidden gems and cultural landmarks. The winning team will score some awesome prizes: A "key to the city" cake, and each of the four runner-up teams will get a Chinese New Year Treasure Hunt certificate and a bottle of champagne to celebrate their win.

The hunt and the annual parade will be going on at the same time (February 15), so scavenger hunt participants will have a large crowd to watch them navigate the city, as well as an exciting environment to search in.

The hunt starts at 4:30 at Justin Herman Plaza (at the foot of Market Street at the Embarcadero, right behind the Hyatt Regency) and goes until 9 p.m, but make sure to check in by 3:30, wear comfortable walking shoes, and layers; the hunt, and parade, will happen rain or shine.

Alternatively, costumes are also encouraged, and prizes will be given to the team with the best outfits, as well as the team with the best name. This is definitely the time to bring out that full sized horse costume you wore at a party in college and still have lurking in the back of your closet.

Early purchase tickets are $42, (at the door it's $50 for adults), $20 for children between the ages of 13-18, and $12 for those 12 and under. A part of the proceeds will go to the San Francisco Circus Center, a non-profit center that strives to inspire a love for the circus arts.
