Bernal Heights is the Hottest Neighborhood in the U.S. for 2014

Is it its perch above the city? The bars? Perhaps it's Cortland 331 and the awesome neighborhood blog Bernalwood that makes Bernal Heights the hottest 'hood? There's many reasons we love the neighborhood, but we're not the only ones.

Real Estate site Redfin ranked the coolest spots to call home and found that the southern San Francisco neighborhood was hotter than Vegas's Desert Shores, and L.A.'s Eagle Rock.

When it came to deciding the top neighborhood of 2014, Bernalwood broke the news and noted they used qualifiers such as easy commutes and affordable prices -- we guess a median sale price of $982,500 looks affordable to someone. Not us, but we digress. Oh wait, and they said good schools too. Apparently they're unaware of San Francisco's public school lottery system.

In a further breakdown of the top 5 neighborhoods of San Francisco, we scanned the list looking for the place we call home and found -- there's not another San Francisco neighborhood on the list! Apparently they believe San Francisco is synonymous with Bay Area. We weren't even sure where a couple of the neighborhoods were -- Niles? Cipriani?

Good thing they provided a map.

Well, we still love you Bernal, regardless of their qualifiers. Congratulations on being so hot.

It is expensive because if it was cheap it would turn into Miami. No one wants that.

It's SF - so what's the surprise? I don't live in San Fran but I KNOW it's a great place to reside... if you can afford it.

Listen SF weekly, I don't expect good journalism from you guys but what do you feel about telling people that this one area in Bernal Heights thats not the Mission or Cole Valley or Castro, will make locals have their rent prices driven up(no ad hominem just solid stats) and the fact that everyone in the bay area is complaining about rent prices inflating. So, I would like your input and would appreciate you guys discussing this very salient issue. I guess what I'm trying to say is... Am I silly to complain that rent is ridiculous here or am I one of those people not in the right industry complaining and should just shut up because this city is great.

I lived there as a teenager. On York street. And lived on Anderson St. too. Very nice

Has always been just a tucked away working class neighborhood. Certainly nothing fancy dancey like say Noe Valley.

You can actually live in Niles? I thought it was just this mysterious old timey main street from another time and place!

Why do I feel like all these articles constantly voting SF the "hottest" and "Best" everything are really just blatant marketing by the City's parasitic real-estate developers?

If you look at what they measured it by, it's a hot neighborhood if you've got kids
