Casting Call: Virgin America Needs Hip Dancers to Make In-Flight Safety Video
Let's face it -- if the plane went down for an emergency landing you'd have no clue what to do. But that's not really your fault. For as long as we've been flying on airplanes, the in-flight safety videos have been more forgettable than a political column written by Mayor Ed Lee.
You can forget about So You Think You Can Dance ...
But leave it to Virgin America -- the quirky San Francisco-based airline that's always trying to get you to crack a smile -- to shake it up, giving the average flyer (and above average dancer) the chance to star in the airline's next safety video.
This week, the airline put out a casting call to find "finger tutters, robot rappers, tango dancers, and animators" to audition for the safety dance (If you haven't seen the first one yet, watch it now).
According to the airline:
We tapped Hollywood Director (John Chu, known for his work in Step Up II & III, G.I. Joe, and the Microsoft Surface ads) to create a dynamic, high-energy safety video set entirely to dance and song -- which reflects the brand's musical roots and our commitment to "making flying fun again. The video includes choreography from some of the dance world's brightest lights, including Christopher Scott and Jamal Sims and dancers Todrick Hall (America Idol) and Cyrus Spender (So You Think You Can Dance). Given intense loyalty around the original animated version, the new version includes some nods to the past -- and the animated version will be featured onboard Red as cached content.
Now all you have to do is practice a few times in the mirror and submit your moves on Instagram video by November 22 with the hashtag #VXsafetydance
If you are chosen, you will not only get to kick off your dance career in mid-air, but your submission will be incorporated into the new video and you'll get two roundtrip tickets on Virgina America (main cabin only -- first class is reserved for New York-bound chihuahuas).
