San Franciscans Pretty Damn Smart, Says New Survey
Go ahead America -- say what you will about our incessant fog, plentiful crackheads, and obscene rent prices, we'll always have this:
We've been voted eighth smartest city in the United States, which may really excite you or which might be another ranking you toss into a box in the attic, along with all our other recent laurels.
According to the Movoto blog -- which covers "the lighter side of real estate" -- Bay Area denizens are certified smarty pants.
Apparently one of their bloggers recently went to a trivia night at a bar near Berkeley's campus. "It was, to be perfectly honest, an awe-inspiring experience getting drubbed by students and professors alike."
Here's how it came about:
Anyway, it got the guys at Movoto thinking -- what city has the smartest people...and how can we figure it out?
Movoto decided on 6 pieces of criteria:
Universities and colleges per person
Libraries per person
Media per person (newspapers, TV, radio, magazines)
Museums per person
Public school rank
And so, here are the 10 smartest cities in America according to that all number-crunching:
1. Pittsburgh, PA
2. Orlando, FL
3. Washington, DC
4. Atlanta, GA
5. Honolulu, HI
6. Tampa, FL
7. Seattle, WA
8. San Francisco, CA
9. Cincinnati, OH
10. Miami, FL
Who knew Orlando and Honolulu were so smart? Are they getting an unfair cognitive boost from all the tourists, or is that a handicap? Hard to say, but, for comparison, here's the full list of the top 50, for your reading pleasure.
