Cocktails, Cicada Puppets and Peanut Butter Wolf at the California Academy of Sciences
By Emilie Mutert
Does your sleeping life bore you? Are you less than satisfied with how weird your dreams are? You might get some much-needed inspiration if you attend the weekly NightLife event at the California Academy of Sciences.
For this week's theme, "Reel to Real NightLife," the San Francisco Film Society and the Academy have put together a trippy-sounding film-plus-science show featuring a short cicada puppet film, a table reading of the play Beasts of the Southern Wild (along with a Q&A about the making of the film), a live cinematic program in a coral reef, a DJ set by Stones Throw Records founder Peanut Butter Wolf, love-testing devices, and some campy educational science films, along with cocktails and possibly captivating conversation.
"Reel to Real NightLife" on April 4 from 6-10 p.m. at the California Academy of Sciences, 55 Music Concourse Drive in Golden Gate Park, S.F. Tickets are $10-$12. 379-8000 or calacademy.org/events/nightlife/.
