Video of the Day: Kevin Smith, Live Podcasting at Cobb's

Categories: Comedy, Events

During a live podcast recording at last year's SF Sketchfest, Kevin Smith regaled the audience with adventures of his rectum, and talked about how he was caring for the family dog who was so close to death that everyone else had given up on her.

And while those are not the typical go-to subjects for a comedic performance, filmmaker Smith -- best known for flicks like Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma -- imbued them with an honest and honestly funny sensitivity. He even opened up on the painful topic of being discriminated against because of his size, as he infamously experienced when he was asked to get off a Southwest Airlines flight in Oakland in 2010. His ability to be unflinchingly personal allows for a genuinely refreshing type of comedy; it's a nice surprise from the man who is so often typecast as his character Silent Bob.

Kevin Smith returns as part of the Plus One Podcast Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. at Cobb's Comedy Club, 915 Columbus, S.F. Admission is $25.
