| Ali Wong |
Voted "Best Comedian" in our 2009 Best of S.F. edition, Ali Wong has since relocated to the sunnier (but not funnier) shores of Southern California. Short for Alexandra, Wong considers herself "a fake Ali," which might have been a key to her thriving in Hollywood. There, she has scored some interesting and diverse gigs, including a stand-up appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, a part in Oliver Stone's crime thriller Savages, and a recurring role on the singular season of the NBC sitcom Are You There, Chelsea? (the latter job dovetailed into several turns at the Chelsea Lately talk show roundtable).

Despite lovely, delicate looks and glasses, she'll happily shred any
stereotypes of the docile and bookish Asian female with jokes that would
make such delicate flowers blush with embarrassment. Whether it's
deconstructing warped body images or disarming messed-up racism with
incisive wit, Wong represents what's right about open-minded humorists
who are bred in the Bay Area.
Ali Wong performs Wednesday, Dec. 26 at 8 p.m. at Punchline Comedy Club, 444 Battery (at
Clay), S.F. Admission is $20.
