Instagram Parody of Nickelback's "Photograph" Is Hilarious and True (Video)
A friend and I were talking the other day about how Instagram is the least annoying social media site. Facebook is overrun with racist comments and pictures of your friends' fetuses. Twitter is a depressing lesson in homophobia. And Pinterest is one giant, bored housewife party, where the theme is "Look at my asshole!" But Instagram! Oh, we thought it would remain pure for at least a little while. Sadly, that may not be the case, as this hilariously accurate parody video from College Humor illustrates.
The guy and gal in the video sing about the most stereotypical Instagram offenses (food, babies, clouds, skylines, plane wings, etc.), and is a startling and astute comment on how self-indulgent we've become about documenting our boring lives (all to the tune of the Nickelback song "Photograph.")
"Started out as a lemon tart, then my phone went and made it art," croons the guy, who sounds a lot better than Chad Kroeger, in our opinion. His female counterpart chimes in by Instagram-ing her cat wearing glasses, "He thinks he's people!" Other lyrics (written by Dan Gurewitch and Owen Parsons) include:
Fireworks in the sky
A super close-up of my eye
Now a selfie, lookin' cute
In the same room where I poop
Nickelback is easily the most mocked entity on the Internet, but this is the first real glimpse of Instagram following suit with other annoying forms of media. We can't say we disagree (our own Instagram feed is shamefully full of "selfies" and "black and white skylines"). Still, we remain hopeful that our exaggerated sense of self-importance on social media sites stays minimally narcissistic and manageable. P.S. did you see this pic of me dressed as Baberham Lincoln? OMG. Sepia makes everything totes cuter!
