San Francisco Featured in World's Most Beautiful TV Ad
In an effort to tug at our heartstrings and make us long for simpler, childhood times, Sony created a video ad for their Bravia HD TV that consisted of dropping 250,000 colorful bouncy balls down the hills of San Francisco.

The balls were dropped in real time down Leavenworth and Filbert Streets in Russian Hill. How they managed to wrangle up all the balls afterward remains a mystery (and is probably actually a boring story now that we think of it. "Well, we had lots of brooms" is how we imagine that conversation going.)
Playing throughout the ad is "Heartbeats" by Swedish singer Jose Gonzalez, and includes these lovely lyrics:
One night of magic rush
the start a simple touch
one night to push and scream
and then relief
10 days of perfect tunes
the colors red and blue
we had a promise made
we were in love
to call for hands of above
to lean on wouldn't be good enough for me,
no to call for hands of above
to lean on wouldn't be good enough
While the ad has been around for a while (and won a Gold Lion in the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival years ago), Sony seems to be making another recent push, what with its "I love the Sony Bravia Bouncy Balls Commercial" Facebook page, which was created in October.
Regardless, the video answers a question that has plagued San Francisco residents for some time now: What is it like to watch balls in HD?
