Break Out the Single-Serving Boxed Wines: Target Opens Soon
After years of soul searching, re-branding, re-modeling, and re-re-modeling, the Metreon has finally found its true calling. No, it isn't kicking teenagers out of the massage chairs or giving in to movie theater inertia. The Metreon is going full-on suburbs and getting a Target. Yes, that Target.
Target will announce it's presence in San Francisco on Tuesday, October 9 with a special Celebrate the City event, at which business casual attire is requested, but the official opening isn't until Oct 14. While cheap socks, 2-for-1 DVDs, and blenders that only work twice may not scream business casual to most SF residents, Target is billing their party as "an exclusive celebration." This will be the new CityTarget, marketed to the urban professional set. Expect fresh fruit, and higher prices.
CityTarget will, presumably, be hiring local workers, as many as 300, according to The Huffington Post. No word yet on whether those jobs will pay enough to live in San
Francisco, or even shop at CityTarget. Regardless, it won't be long
until San Franciscans, tired of peering through the Metreon's windows or
driving to Daly City for their toasters, will go and see what all the
fuss is about.
