The great thing about living in San Francisco is you never run out of things to do. I'm not just talking about Fleet Week and America's Cup type things -- what really makes a city interesting are the nooks and crannies. It's those little morsels of culture that you couldn't find anywhere else, and we've got one coming up soon with the Rock 'N' Roll Carnival, presented by Broke-Ass Stuart, Tricycle Records, and Public Works.

What makes an S.F. culture nugget? First, you need a catchy title: Rock 'N' Roll Carnival -- check. Then you need interesting entertainment: Comedians, burlesque dancers, and magicians -- check. A wild card: Skee-Ball! -- and, of course, you need booze. Lots of booze.
Check, check, check.
Personally, I like my events cheap, and hopefully not on a day when the city is packed full of map-toters that couldn't parallel park if their life depended on it (yes, I'm talking about you last weekend). The Rock 'N' Roll Carnival doesn't disappoint here either, happening on a Thursday for only $7, with live performances by Birdmonster, LeVICE, and Teenage Sweater. Come thirsty because Fireball Whisky is handing out freebies for the first hour (while supplies last), which is a perfect supplement to the face-painting and fortune telling to come.
Step right up, Thursday Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. at Public Works, 161 Erie (at 14th St.), S.F. Admission is $7-$10.
