The History of Alcoholics Anonymous Is Now a Musical
|A.A. co-founder Bill W. and his wife Lois|
The interesting venue award for this week goes to Living Sober, for having a fundraiser and performing a "whimsically fictionalized musical retelling of the history of A.A. and Al-Anon" at Everett Middle School. The musical is called Help Is on the Way, and comes complete with an A.A./Al-Anon meeting before the show.
While the fundraiser and play take place at night, and don't appear inappropriate or graphic, we can't suppress a chuckle at the thought of little Johnny staying late for detention, and getting more education than he bargained for. Coincidentally, the event is scheduled to begin right after Parent Conference, so while one group of parents will be arriving to stay sober, another group of parents will probably need a stiff drink. At least the kids at Everett aren't hurting for extra curricular activities with all these budget cuts.
Help Is on the Way plays Friday, October 19 at 8 p.m. Everett Middle School, 450 Church (at 16th St.). The A.A./Al-Anon meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $15.
