If you haven't been keeping abreast of SF Weekly's coverage on the Castro's alleged cock ring patrol and other nude news, then you clearly have stronger Internet filters than we do. Or maybe your boss is a dick of the non S.F.-friendly variety.

Either way, we're here to unveil news of a new play about the current public nudist debate here in our fair city. It is, not so subtly, called The Buck Naked Church of Truth and it's one of seven short, comic plays debuting soon (Sept. 21) as part of "Family Programming" from Left Coast Theatre Company.

According to an e-mail by the playwright, James A. Martin, The Buck Naked Church of Truth centers on a young, gay Castro resident who "unexpectedly runs into his father, who is visiting S.F. from the Midwest and doesn't know his son is a nudist. The explosive, hilarious encounter pushes the father, who sees himself as a liberal, to confront his real boundaries for tolerance and acceptance."

The "Family Programming" series involves the producers and many of the actors and playwrights involved in the popular Eat Our Shorts series, which Huffington Post called "one of the funniest evenings of gay theater I've seen in years."

Though Martin's play is a mere 10-minutes long, he says it "has plenty of surprises to offer -- one character's outrageous 'painting' alone is worth the price of admission. And yes, there will be full-frontal nudity."

Will this play help solve our great nude controversy or only serve to further arouse suspicions? Time will tell.

The Buck Naked Church of Truth starts at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 (and continues through Oct. 13) at Shelton Theater, 533 Sutter (at Powell). Admission is $15-$20.
