Burning Man Art 2012: Kick-Ass, Inspiring, and Perplexing

Burning Man has a reputation for being a hippie, sexy drug fest (much like San Francisco does), and because of that, it's easy to forget about the truly amazing art work that comes through Black Rock City (Some of it never to return). Below, we recognize the craftsmanship, sweat, artistry, and what-the-fuck-ness of this year's Burning Man art. Want more? Visit our slideshow. Want to skip the art and just look at the sexy people? You're in luck.

Follow us down the rabbit hole.

This appears to be a gigantic mobile with dangling baby lanterns. The construction is impressive in and of itself, but the emotion and vulnerability that it inspires is what keeps us transfixed.

This is one class act balancing act.

A miniature replica of American institutions. The building on the left looks like Bank of America. Then there's the anarchist "smash the state" graffiti. But our favorite part is the Ghostbusters-esque watch dog with glowing, penetrating eyes and jagged frame.

If Alice in Wonderland threw a tea party at Burning Man, it would definitely be here. Look at the detail on this thing! It's so fragile-seeming, yet sturdy.
