Next Monday, June 11, comedian and producer Lisa Geduldig comes to El Rio in the Mission with Gay Comedy Night, an early hat-tip to the Pride that is set to sweep the Bay Area in a couple of weeks.

Lisa Geduldig, comedian and purveyor of inclusive comedy
Geduldig began her stand-up comedy career at El Rio 23 years ago, and has been producing a variety of diverse, inclusive comedy shows with Kung Pao Kosher Comedy since 1993. The production group began with a single show of the same name, which brought together Jewish comics who had nothing better to do on Christmas than visit a Chinese restaurant. Nearly twenty years later, that show has expanded to include just about anyone who enjoys smart comedy mixed with Chinese food, and Geduldig has expanded to produce shows that include comedians of all faiths, genders, colors, sizes, orientations, and political opinions.

Now in its fourth year, "Comedy Returns to El Rio!" happens every 2nd Monday of the month with various themes and features comics from the Bay Area and beyond. The June 11 show will feature 35-year comedy veteran Karen Ripley, L.A.-based Scott Silverman, drag luminary Pippi Lovestocking, on-again-off-again comic Bob McIntyre, and Russian-Jewish blogger and comedian Yuri Kagan. This crew is packed with more credits than we're used to seeing at locally-produced shows. Ripley was featured on LOGO TV's "Wisecracks", Silverman on Comedy Central, and Lovestocking on Last Comic Standing, among others. The experience and diversity behind the queer-friendly cast of characters promises an entertaining evening.

Later this month, Kung Pao Kosher will also present "The 2nd (sorta annual) Color of Funny," a two-night show that will hit Berkeley and Santa Cruz. These shows will feature the many faces and colors of very cleve comedy, including Maureen Langan (Irish-American), Dhaya Lakshminarayanan (Indian-American), Yayne Abeba (Ethiopian-American), and Nathan Habib (Jewish/Israeli/Latvian).

Geduldig, a New York Jewish transplant to the Bay Area, will host all three shows.
