Bay Area Comedy Roundup: Gay Pride 2012 Edition

If San Francisco is known across the nation for one thing, it's our Pride. And maybe that one bridge -- but, don't worry about that right now. This weekend, it's all about the Pride. The SF Pride festivities officially kick off on Saturday, but we've been revving up for the celebration all month! And the Bay Area's comedy scene (oh, yeah, we're kinda known for that too...) won't be left out. This weekend, as well as throughout the year every year, the Bay Area is home to inclusive stand-up comedy that welcomes and celebrates the diversity of which we are so adamantly and famously proud.

Pride Comedy Celebration

Kick it off tonight in Walnut Creek with producer and comedian Greg Asdourian. This weekly comedy show at Masses Sports Bar & Grill joins the Pride celebration tonight, featuring Yuri Kagan and headliner Marga Gomez.

The Pride Comedy Celebration begins at 9 p.m. at Masses, 2721 North Main Street, Walnut Creek. Free!

Marga and The Babes

This Friday at the San Francisco LGBT Center, Marga Gomez headlines Marga and The Babes, her 6th annual Pride extravaganza with hilarious guest stars Natasha Muse, Justin Lucas, and Riley Manlapaz. Each year, Marga finds exciting new queer talent in the Bay Area comedy scene to feature in this outrageous, edgy, and delicious night of laughs.

Show starts at 8 p.m. June 22 at SF LGBT Center, 1800 Market St. Tickets are available for $15 here.

Marga also runs The Comedy Bodega every Thursday at Esta Noche Nightclub, S.F.'s only Latino gay bar. "The lineup varies from almost all gay to almost all straight. But always cool," says the prolific producer.

The Hella Gay Comedy Show

Charlie Ballard hosts this monthly event at Deco Lounge. This week they celebrate with the Gay Pride Comedy Show, featuring Jenn Dronsky, Valeska Ville, Loren Kraut, Nick Leonard, Karen Ripley, TJ Kelsall, Cassandra Gorgeous, Kat Evasco, Jessica Sele, and headliner Dolores Trevino.

Show starts at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 at Deco Lounge, 510 Larkin St. $20 cover.

Upcoming Hella Gay shows include the Fag Hag Comedy Show on July 8, and Drag Queen Comedy Night on August 12. Learn more about the shows and Ballard at his website.

Color of Funny

Lisa Geduldig produces The 2nd (sorta Annual) Color of Funny this Thursday and Friday. Of the inclusive comedy show, Geduldig says, "I'm the gay part. The others are uber funny."

Color of Funny hits Berkeley and Santa Cruz. Showtimes and ticket details are here.
