Save Authentic Art -- Go to the East Bay Alternative Press Book Fair
You've no excuse, really, not to attend the East Bay Alternative Press Book Fair. Although it sports a very similar name to the Alternative Press Expo held in San Francisco every year, it's quite different. Primarily, it's not the gigantic baby of the Comic Con conglomerate, but rather a smaller venture, dedicated to highlighting local independent artists and publishers in the S.F. Bay Area.
Co-organizer Brooke Appler says, "You can definitely look forward to seeing a wide array of zines, comics, silkscreens and art as well as many a friendly artist who would love to share their works with you." We're sold.
As far as who the artists are, you'll meet Jen Oaks, Sophie Yanow, Kane Lynch, Gnartoons, Family Style, among others. Bonus points: Admission is free, and it's right next to the Downtown Berkeley BART station, which might help get some of your cheap lazy asses out of the city. Think of it this way: If you don't go, the only art that'll be left in the world is gonna be X Men vs. Muppet Babies in 3D Smell-o-Vision. (Whoa. That sounded way more awesome than we meant it to.)
The fair is Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10-11, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Berkeley City College, 2050 Center, Berkeley. Did we mention admission is free?
