Coyote Kills Roadrunner -- Now What? Brendan Hay Asks a Similar Question in Rascal Raccoon

In the grossly underappreciated 2010 animated film Megamind, the titular supervillain finally defeats his nemesis, the superhero Metro Man. The film answers the question, "Well, what now?" It's worth exploring. For example, isn't everyone curious about what happens after Sleeping Beauty wakes up? Maybe she was too terrified to ever sleep again, and maybe the prince was forced to divorce her because of her crippling No-Doz addiction. These are the questions that keep us up at night!

The new comic, Rascal Raccoon's Raging Revenge, written by Berkeley author Brendan Hay, explores the same question, in comic form. Rascal Raccoon, a "meanie" in the comics world, witnesses the accidental death of his nemesis, Jumping Jackalope, and he takes credit. What now? His life is turned upside down when he finds himself without purpose, and eventually he redirects his anger on a much bigger target -- the animator who created him. It's like Wile E. Coyote killed the Roadrunner and then went completely deranged -- and it's awfully fun. Hay appears Saturday at Mission Comics.

Hay, former headline producer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and contributing writer on Stewart's book, America, has written for Robot Chicken, The Mighty B!, and The Simpsons. He's now head writer on the upcoming animated Star Wars comedy show (exciting!), but his heart belongs to comics.

Lucky for us, Hay will read from and sign copies of Rascal Raccoon's Raging Revenge on Saturday in the Mission. You can check out the preview at Oni Press, and the reading will take place on Saturday, Dec. 17, starting at 1 p.m. at Mission Comics, winner of the Best Comic Book/Art Store Hybrid in the 2011 SF Weekly Best Of Awards.
