Jered Sprecher's Abstract Works Show Volume, Movement, Tension in "Shadows in Friction"

Besides putting together gorgeous abstract paintings, Jered Sprecher knows how to keep us absorbed in his work. His paintings are open to multiple interpretations, and his method keeps your eyes moving in a way few abstract works can. Sprecher's art can take hours from your day, because the longer you look, the more you see.

His latest exhibit is "Shadows in Friction" at Gallery 16. It runs concurrently with Wayne Smith's "1996."

​With its harsh blacks and yellows against purples, reds, and teals, it's mesmerizing. This work in particular has a sinking depth; it appears to be an uninviting funhouse hallway we're expected to walk through.

Exquisite

​At first glance Exquisite seems simple, with black, yellow, and gray geometric shapes. However, on closer inspection there's more: Layers of color and shape are hidden, creating volume and, again, depth.
