​Twitter isn't just useful for humblebragging or DMing pictures of your genitals. For nearly as long as there's been a Twitter, there have been clever tricksters using the form to impersonate celebrities, institutions, or even average Americans, to lulzy effect.

From the inspired lunacy of Fake Nick Nolte to the mordant black humor of BPGlobalPR or the sly grammatical wit of Fake AP Stylebook, here are 10 fake Twitter accounts that are always good for a momentary distraction from getting any actual work done this afternoon.

@BPGlobalPR is possibly the most notorious fake Twitter account, and with more than 169,000 followers, it's probably safe to say that this ersatz PR campaign has been more effective than most real ones. For the past year, following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf, tweets have mimicked BP's shoulder-shrug of a response to its role in the destruction of the ocean, fish, wildlife, culture, and economy for an entire region, as though the company had merely nudged a coffee cup off the edge of the table while hungover during a board meeting -- oops!
