You don't have to sell any Californians on the abundance of Asian and Latino cultural influences in the visual landscape -- and San Francisco is particularly rich like that. Of course, the influence is not just seen but tasted, heard, and otherwise allowed to caress our tender senses. Anyone who ventures out of the U.S. admits that at some point while out there, they just wanted a freaking Mission burrito, for example.

Tonight's opening for "Chico and Chang" features artists who explore the blending and discord of Latino and Asian cultures in California, digging for nuance, humor, and a little truth. Among the artists is the fabulous Tracey Snelling, whose exquisite miniatures detail interesting pockets and less-explored corners of life, with video and sound accompaniments.

Fundraising event Hybrid Fusion occurs in conjunction with the art opening, offering a panoply of culinary pleasures brought to our shores from our neighbors to the south and west; proceeds go to the gallery's youth engagement and education programs.

"Chico and Chang" continues through August 20 at Intersection for the Arts. Admission to Hybrid Fusion on June 11 is $50; admission to the exhibit after that is free.
