Hey YOU! You have a favorite local comedian. Yes, you do. I know you do. It's just likely that YOU don't know that you do. It's time you found out who your favorite local comedian is. And I have the perfect homework assignment for you. You are going to go to the San Francisco Punch Line on Sunday night and pick your new favorite local comedian. Don't worry. It will be easy. There will be at least 15 comedians to choose from, which is a great sampling of what is currently going on comedically in the Bay Area.
You will either laugh lots, which will make it a challenge to determine who is your personal favorite, or you will hate everybody and only laugh once. But if you only laugh once then you will immediately know that whoever made you laugh is your favorite local comedian. And after the show --- Here's the most important part --- you will approach that comedian and tell them, "You are my new favorite local comedian." That comedian will most likely look down at her/his feet and mumble out some form of thank you.
Now don't be afraid. Most comedians don't know how to accept praise. If we did, we probably wouldn't be comedians. I actually don't trust the comedians who are too good at accepting compliments. The same way I don't trust those restaurants in New York that say things like, "The best mozzarella sticks in Queens!" Why you bragging? Let me be the judge of that.
I love the SF comedy scene. I'm a new comedienne. My stage name is Queenie TT and after about 6 months in Sacramento, I felt ready to immerse myself into all that is San Francisco comedy. I was immediately embraced by Tony Sparks and The Brainwash family. Next thing I knew, I was booked at the Purple Onion, and the rest is history. My comedic voice has grown leaps and bounds from the encouragement of the SF Kings of Comedy...they know who they are! Trust me, it's great! I drive all the way from Vacaville, cross two bridges, paying two tolls for 5 to 15 minutes of stage time!
There's a lot of great comedy in the Bay. And Tony Sparks is the Godfather of it all. Tony gave me my first stage time in SF. I'm going to eventually write something about the Brainwash. And I'm glad to see you have been embraced by the scene. Hope to meet you soon! Are you at The Punch Line on Sundays? Take care.
I'm sure your Brainwash article will be excellent! Tony Sparks is certainly, The Godfather. He has been a powerful influence in my comedy career thus far. I'm not doing the Punchline on Sundays yet. I hope to meet you soon also. I'll be performing at the Purple Onion March 27 @ 7 PM. Let me know if you want tickets. I can hook you up. My email is queeniett@live.com and my website is www.pssistermovement.com. It would be great to connect. Take Care.
I have broken up my favorite comedians lists into catagory's (because I have so many). I have favorite SF, favorite Sac, favorite inbetween, favorite females, favorite famous males, favorite cuties, favorite hotties, etc. I have not made it out to the SF Punch Line on a Sunday (yet) but I have been there 8 times in the last 2 months (and once in Dec). I do try to make it to the Showcase they have at the Sac Punch Line the first Wed of the month and those have been some of my favorite shows.
And I know I've seen you twice recently at my shows. YOU ARE THE WINNER! Of what exactly, I'm not sure. But I do know that we comedians should celebrate people like you! You know what? Right now, I'll do a dance in your honor... There. I did it. Thanks for your support.
Excellent advice from an excellent comedian! Also a poignant reminder to be thankful that we live in the post-discovery-of-cleverness era. My life has definitely been improved since my rededication (several yrs ago) to enjoying comedy. But I have not bothered to find a favorite local comedian. (Might've been easy if Hari Kondabolu hadn't left Seattle.) I'll get to work immediately! :D Jennifer K., Bellevue WA
